When it comes to the best value for money laundry liquid, nothing beats Dirt. Our standard sized refill packs cost less than the leading supermarket brands, even as they cycle through various discounts.

Many liquid detergent brands are full of water to give you the perception of 'more'. But by removing the excess water, our ultra-concentrated formula isn’t just a perception, it’s real value.

Packaged in a glass dispenser bottle with a dosage measuring pump, Dirt lets you measure the exact amount you need in every wash, which means no more spillage and no more money going down the drain.

Plus, our products are priced the same all year round, to make life easy. No chasing sales. Just good value every day.

This all sounds great, but if you want to get into the nitty gritty, it’s important to look into the only true economic metric in laundry: cost per load. This refers to the cost it takes to do one load of laundry.

Comparing Cost Per Load

Let’s say you wash five loads of laundry per week (about the amount an average Australian household does), that adds up to 260 loads per year.

With this in mind, let’s break down what you’re really spending every year when you buy Dirt versus the supermarket brands.

Based on the $171.17 average cost per year of the supermarket brands we surveyed (regular size), you would save $81.92 a year if you made the switch to Dirt.

Comparing Cost Per Load - Half Price Sale

By now we’re all familiar with the old game: supermarkets cycle through 20-50% off sales for different brands every 1- 2 months, so that as consumers we feel like we’re getting a great deal. So we compared Dirt (regular sized Refill) to supermarket brands on half-price-sale to show you that the maths still adds up. Because we’re all about price transparency.

Based on the $85.58 average cost per year of the supermarket brands we surveyed (at 50% off), you’ll only spend $3.66 more on Dirt. At the same time, you’ll be avoiding the mental load of tracking sales and always chasing what could be the next lowest price.

How did we crunch the numbers?

Well, we started our research at Woolworths and Coles on October 1st 2026, and purchased Dynamo, OMO, and Earthwise full price in their regular sized packs.

We then calculated their individual cost per load and multiplied it by five (loads of washing per week), and again by 52 (weeks) and the results speak for themselves.

One Last Thing - Plastic Per Load

While we're on the topic of cost per load, we’d be amiss not to mention the most mind-boggling statistic of all—the environmental cost.

Check out the plastic cost per load of a standard supermarket bottle versus a refill pack. Spoiler alert: We absolutely knock it out of the park in this department.

And this is not including the fact that more than 50% of the refill packs we send are on their second life or third life.

Cost per load can be measured in more ways than one, but we urge you to please stay vigilant in the laundry - it can be quite sticky business!
