FAQs

Do both the Spot Stain Treater bottle and the Carry On bottle come full?

Yes, they certainly do. Your main Spot Stain Treater bottle arrives fully loaded with 475ml, and the handy Carry On bottle comes perfectly filled with 20ml so you're ready to tackle unexpected spills right out of the box, whether you're at home or on the go.

Which stains will the Food and Drink Spot Stain Treater work best on?

The Food and Drink Spot Stain Treater will work best on food stains that are dye based; such as berries, watermelon, ice poles, tea, coffee, etc. This is due to the combination of oxi-action bleach and surfactants. The only exceptions to this rule are some paint and dye stains, which you’ll need solvents to remove.

Stains that are protein based; like blood, sweat, or oil, will best be spot treated with our Oil, Body and Grease Stain Remover, as they will respond best to enzymes - which cannot co-exist with oxygen bleach in a liquid base.

Can I use this on all fabrics?

The Food and Drink Spot Stain Treater cannot be used on fabrics that say "do not bleach".

The labels generally exist on delicate fabrics; like wools and silks, and fabrics that have not been through a thorough 'dye setting' process.

If in doubt, we would recommend you patch test, by spraying a small amount of the stain solution onto an inconspicuous part of the fabric, and wait 30 minutes to check that everything is okay first.

What happens if I leave the Spot Stain Treater on for more than 30 minutes?

On many fabrics, nothing will happen.

But on others, where the dye wasn’t properly set or where a lot of optical brighteners were used in manufacturing, the stain remover can start working past the stain and into the dye itself. Because the formula contains oxygen bleach, leaving it on too long can also lead to over-oxidation. When that happens, the fibres can start to shift towards a yellow tint.

Thirty minutes is a conservative window that keeps your fabric safe while giving the formula time to do its job. Think of it as a good general rule.

After that, blot the fabric with water to lift the solution, or pop it straight into the wash.

Can I use it as a post-wash treatment and dry it in the sun?

Not when you’ve used this stain remover solution.

Because it contains oxygen bleach, the formula works by opening up the fibres and oxidising the stains. That is exactly what you want. But if you then put those open fibres in harsh UV, the sun can accelerate that oxidation past the good point. Push it too far and you risk fibre damage and a yellow cast.

So: use the treatment, rinse it out properly, then let the sun do its thing. Just don’t combine the two at once.
