You might know us as the small but mighty laundry detergent company, but this week - we’re a fragrance house.

Here’s why:

Over the years we’ve focussed on bringing our products to life through the use of natural origin scents, and essential oils. We always test our scents with at least 10 people within our business, to make sure that they hit the nose in the right way, before they leave the building.

Their profile; clean, green, and a little unique to the laundry aisle.

We’ve had launches that have been hugely successful, using this method.

But we’ve also had products where we’ve had to correct the scent after launch (our original stain remover formula which over time changed and smelt like vomit to some) and scents that we nearly launched with (like lemongrass and eucalyptus in the powder booster) only to discover at the last minute reminded some people of being sick (menthol lozenges = bad memories).

Scent is so personal, so we’ve decided the baseline criteria for our portfolio is this;

  1. Scents we absolutely love
  2. Scents that are natural origin and contain essential oils
  3. Scents that conjure up mostly good memories for people
  4. Scents that if people don’t like  - it’s for very unique reasons (unlike the menthol memories, which might be quite common) - we know we can’t please everyone

The tricky part about this criteria, is it requires more than 10 noses and opinions, to work out if we have achieved it.  So, we knocked our heads together trying to come up with a way to get as many noses as possible on our shortlisted scents.

The idea came to us in the form of a candle.

After a bit of trial and error, we discovered where to get the perfect candle vessels (this was a bit of a saga), how to perfectly get the scents into the soy wax, how to set the soy wax so cracking was at a minimum, and how to get the concentration of all the ingredients perfectly balanced. They’re not flawless, but they are great.

We have made 400 candles of four different scents, plus another allotment for our subscribers.

We’re giving these candles away for free, from Wednesday May 31st, at 8am - to all orders over $50 - and while stocks last.

The reason you need to spend more than $50, is because we can be sure we’ll be able to fit your candles in the bigger boxes we need for bigger orders, and we’re sure we can’t in the smaller boxes.

We’re also giving them away to all subscription orders placed between Friday May 26th and Friday June 2nd.

All that we ask in return, is that you send us your opinion about the scent that only your nose knows. The scent will smell most similar to the way it is in our new product (more on that another time), while it is not burning.
